Rapid City Elks Lodge 1187 is not just about having a good time with our fellow Elks thou it is very nice to visit with fellow Elks. Rapid City Elks Lodge has a very big heart and it swells with charity for the community. Here are some of the people and activities the Lodge is involved with:
THANK YOU ALL, from the Loyal Knight Chair that oversees the ENF donations for the Lodge. As you know, the Lodge reached the GER’s goal of $4.50 per member for the 2009-2010 year. As a result we received a gratuity grant of $500 for the Lodge to donate. This year we heard that Fort Meade VA Hospice unit receives no funds for events like a Memorial Service, etc. We voted at last months Lodge meeting to donate it to Fort Meade VA Hospice unit, on behalf of PER Corky Schultz who is receiving care with the unit.
PER Corky Schultz was visited by NVS Chairman Neil Harris, Former Sectary Dick Walker and Est. Loyal Knight Tim Werlinger at the Hospice
PER Corky Schultz tells Est. Loyal Knight Tim Werlinger and former Secretary Dick Walker ‘how it was …’
They were joined by Mary Ann Herrboldt, RN Hospice Coordinator, Mary Graham, Nurse
The Veterans that are at Fort Mead and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers are very special to our Lodge. The Lodge membership takes pride in giving to our veterans to say Thank You for what you have given to us.
The Activities Board above was Donated by the Elks Lodge
Troop 55, Boy Scouts of America, created a very large and beautiful Christmas card and asked Neil Harris NVSC Chairman to deliver it to the Veterans at Fort Meade. With the restrictions of young people not being allowed access to the Fort Meade facility, due to the H1N1 flu concerns, he agreed to being the ‘go between’. So, Neil presented the Christmas card to the veterans that attended the December 17th BINGO night, which is sponsored by the Elks Lodge. They all expressed their appreciation and asked Neil to wish Troop 55 members a very Merry Christmas and thank them for their care and support. Neil passed along their wishes to the Troop 55 leaders: Marke Stucke Senior Patrol Leader, Linda Larson Scoutmaster and Bruce Crisman Assistant Scoutmaster
On December 18th, Neil Harris NVSC Chariman attended a Cub Scout Pack 74 meeting. Pack 74 members had ‘hand painted’ forty (40) Christmas decorations and asked Neil to deliver them and a couple ‘pails’ of popcorn to the veterans at Fort Meade. Neil thanked the Pack 74 members and leaders for the beautiful decorations, their thoughtfulness and support of the veterans. Neil delivered the decorations and popcorn to Fort Meade on December 19th and received photos of the decorations being placed on Christmas trees at the Fort Meade facilities. Neil will shared these photos with the Pack 74 members. Neil wants to recognize the Pack 74 leaders that have such a positive impact on these young men: Rodney & Linda Brown, Dave Davis, Adam Frizzell, Ed Lucas, Chris Walz, Julie Kjellerson, Shandra Klein, Jolene Hillesad and Dustin Beranek.
